WE ARE NOT FINISHED

4 Sep

#2 in the series “Punch-Packing
Not my words but these echo 100% where I feel the Church is at in this day and age and what I am called to as a devoted, adoring follower of Jesus Christ.
The world so desperately needs us to ‘stand up and be counted’…
So – listen up!

I am deeply concerned that those who inherited freedom have lost sight of its high cost! I grieve over a gospel that is cloaked in benefits but requires no responsibility. Some bask in His victory while the nations continue to live in oppression, poverty, and despair.

I don’t doubt our victory nor do I question our great calling…but I wonder at lack of resolve that many Believers have to engage society at the level of their greatest pain and carve out a path through the snake invested jungle, carrying the weak to a place of safety.

We are not called to polish our armor or hold a Body-building contest! We have been left behind to transform the world. Contrary to popular opinion, Jesus said He was finished, He didn’t say we were!

When Paul spoke of his apostolic credentials he unleashed a list of beatings that would have scared Arnold Schwarzenegger. The very man that taught us about great grace was entrenched in a battle that scared his body and troubled his soul. Yet many Believers are convinced that we will tip toe through the tulips, or win the nations through some garden party.

Where are the women and men with radical faith and outrageous courage? When will the righteous reign and the demoniacs flee at the very sight of a child of the King? How long must we stumble through this darkness before we rise with wisdom that stuns the kings of this world? Who will step out from the crowd and dare to leave the cesspool of unrighteous living to embrace a life of purity?

These are the questions that plague my very soul. As for me, I wasn’t born to live near the sound of church bells…I was created to destroy the gates of hell! Are you ready to incite a revolution?

I Am Not A Christian

20 Aug

Ha! Made you look!!

20130821-155452.jpg
I have just posted this status on my Facebook wall.

I have decided to turn my back on “Christianity”. Instead I want to stake my identity as a lover, a follower, a believer of Jesus Christ. I belong to a Kingdom not a religion. I was born to be free from rules, punishment and legalism. I was born to live free and help others come into the same freedom I live in. I am a Kingdom warrior, with a crown on my head that says “Princess”. I want to stand against the mediocrity, the lame staleness the church is so often known for. Folks, we were born for SO MUCH MORE than that. Following Jesus Christ no longer equals “being a Christian.” Wake up church….!!!

Every so often I feel the need to nail my colours to the mast, to be radical and controversial. This is a kind of follow-up to this post…

It makes me so angry LIVID to see and hear, time and time again, how the “church” is capable of misrepresenting Jesus Christ and His Kingdom and how much damage it has caused over the years centuries. How little, in fact, it even knows who Jesus is. It’s shocking, shameful, and saddens me deeply.

So yes.
I am on the warpath.
I’m not afraid to be a Rebel for the King!!

[polite and loving disclaimer: I will not engage in any theological, intellectual, mind-bending debates in this blog. These words pack a punch – please read.

First in “Punch-Packing” series.
And most definitely NOT the last.

Faith is not a relationship with God. Faith is the connection to a relationship with God. In the book of Acts the Church was called “the Way, ( a walk) not the faith. I’m concerned that Christianity has become a philosophy to believe in instead of a Person we follow.

I’m concerned that we are making converts to Christianity that are not followers of Jesus. Christianity has often, historically not followed Jesus. Christianity has performed terrible atrocities’s, started wars, oppressed women, encouraged slavery, and imprisoned its detractors. All these things that Christianity propagated were taught against by Jesus Christ Himself. He said love your enemies, pray for those persecute you, and he who slaps you on the right cheek give him your left cheek also. He was opposed to violence, loved people who didn’t love Him, and forgave the people who crucified Him.

Jesus taught and lived the highest moral standard ever conceived by humanity. But nowadays people call themselves Christians and live however they want to. They entrench themselves in sin and yet insist that they are following Jesus. They may be Christians who acknowledge a belief system that they don’t follow but their lifestyle bares no semblance to the life of Jesus.

Virtueless Christians and powerless believers are altering the definition of Christianity but they can’t change the path of Jesus Christ. I am increasingly concerned about being identified as a Christian as defined in the 21st-century and by 2000 years of history. Yet I find myself more passionate about following Jesus than I’ve ever been in my entire life. I don’t mind bearing the identity of being a fool for Christ. But I am resistant to being identified as a foolish Christian. The two are no longer synonymous.

What’s In A Gift…?

26 Dec

20111227-010507.jpgBoxing day.

The day after Christmas.

First day of the “January” sales here in the UK.
(…Don’t ask…)
(…we live in a world gone kerrrr-aaaaazy if you ask me…)
(…see what I did there??!…)
(…ah, never mind.)
*draws little circles by forehead with pointer finger*

First day of the new Christmas countdown: 364 days left.
WHAT…?!?
…SERIOUSLY?!?!
(Um – if that’s you, you need to get out more… Just sayin’ 😉 )

Boxing Day.
The day the pressure is lifted. For another 364 days – not that I’m counting.

The day the kids play contentedly with the multitude of toys they received on Christmas Day, and ask for nothing.
The day we all go for fresh air after being cooped up for the last 36 hours.

The day I breathe a sigh of relief that the marathon of cooking the mammoth Christmas meal is over; that it was delicious, well worth the effort, and that there is now enough for us to eat without me having to do much for the next two days… Two birds killed in one stone. Or two turkeys. Whatever.

A day to rest.
A day to Think About Things.

And so on Boxing Day (ie – today) I ponder on the gift I received this Christmas.
Not the Liquorice Catherine Wheels, not even the joy of watching my boys’ delighted faces as they tore open the ornate, shiny paper wrapping their presents.

No – The Other Gift.
The Only Gift.
I didn’t particularly want or need anything else this year.

It’s a gift that multiplies, and becomes Lots Of Gifts.

It’s the gift of a new beginning, through the gift of grace, forgiveness and endless love my Saviour Jesus gave me.

The gift of a united family, bound by real, true, deep, unshakeable love and a covenant made before God 15 years ago.

The gift MIRACLE of a relationship made brand spanking new through (and in spite of) hardship and sin.

And through it all, the deepening realisation that God paid the Ultimate Price for His Gift to me, to Mr Wibbs, and to you reading this now.

My God gave up His precious boy, His son Jesus; He sent Him to be born into the darkness, the filth, the SIN of a world that He had so lovingly made, and that we subsequently so foolishly messed up; then God allowed Him, the Prince of Peace, Immanuel, to die at the hands of those He created (including mine, and yours) – so that the mess, MY mess, your mess – could be made right.

This, to me, right now, is all that matters – it is The One Single Thing from which all other gifts flow. It’s a gift of Absolute, Unconditional, Passionate, Transcendent Love. Redeeming, Restoring, Cleansing, Healing Love.

This Christmas I have known and felt His love for me like never before, and understand like never before what it means to be loved by Him. It means that I, we get a NEW LIFE. Now. For EVER!!

And that, my friends, means transformation in every area of my life. Things are being put right that were wonky shaky falling apart until about two weeks ago.

The Love my Jesus has for me is Eternal, Constant, Transforming and reaches deep into the very recesses of my soul until ALL THINGS ARE NEW.

What a Gift.
I truly didn’t need any more this Christmas.
Thank you, Lover of my Soul.
Thank you, Friend of friends.
Thank you, King of kings.
Thank you, Lord of lords.

Humbly I say,
Thank you.

A New Day is Coming

9 Dec

(listening to Live.LifeChurch.tv and, again, the theme is the same: Can you not see it, do you not perceive it, He is doing a New Thing… The Winter is past, the season of singing has come!)

Lamentations 3:21-26
21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.

Hebrews 10:23
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Don’t lose hope, don’t give up, don’t surrender. It may be dark for a while but a new day is coming. Don’t give up the up. There is a weary world out there but there is a new day coming. Get through the night, and there is a glorious son-rise ahead.

Romans 13:11-12
11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

It is amazing the difference that ONE DAY in Christ makes.
If you’re in the night, in pain, in darkness, you’re reminded that because Jesus was born, Jesus is here, you can have hope in the middle of the night.
A New Day with Christ will bring not necessarily what you want, but exactly what you NEED.
The night is nearly over and the day is almost here.
The darkness is nearly over because the Son of God will rise again.
You are nearer to your salvation than you were a day ago.
The sun always rises again.
A New Day with Christ will bring more than we can ever hope or imagine.

Hearing this beautiful song breaks my heart, but listening to it gives me great hope…

Suffering – Underlined Notes #1

11 Dec

>I’ve found a little gem of a book: “Why Us?” by Warren Wiersbe.

Even in the opening pages I’m blown away by the simple, straightforward wisdom it contains…

So. Underlined notes #1 it is. Be blessed 🙂

• Do I have the kind of faith that works in the battlefield of life?

• In every area of life there must always be an element of faith; what you believe determines how you behave.

• “We cannot put off living until we are ready… Life is fired at us point blank.”

• Suffering can make us selfish or sacrificing

• “When you find yourself overpowered as it were by melancholy, the best way is to go out and do something kind to somebody or other”

• Human history sparkles with the testimonies of people who could have been victims but who decided to be victors.

• Suffering will either be your master or your servant.

• A crisis doesn’t make a person; it reveals what a person is made of.

• It is not enough for your mind to be enlightened, or your heart to be enriched; your will must be enabled in the service of others

• Suffering is not a topic for speculation; it is an opportunity for compassion and involvement.

• The mind grows by taking in, but the heart grows by giving out.

More to come…!
